Intern Call Out

Kalimat is growing rapidly. At Kalimat, interns will get a firsthand look into how a transnational media company functions on a day-to-day basis, as it grows. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about journalism, editing, design, public relations, educational programming and much more. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in an exciting new media start-up that focuses on the Arab world. All our interns must: - be able to work remotely - respond to emails and requests in a timely manner - be flexible and understand the nature of a start-up: work load will change from week to week. - be excited about Arab cultural production and media education Internships are unpaid at this time.

Business Internships

These internships permit a look at the day-to-day management, co-ordination and operations of a print publication and media outlet.

Production and Distribution Intern

Kalimat is looking for a detail-oriented, numbers-obsessed intern. Interns will learn a diversity of finance, magazine distribution and production-related skills. The ideal interns will be looking to hone their skills in logistics and distribution coordination. Tasks include researching distribution outlets, investigating large-scale institutional subscriptions and charting potential costs. This position is unpaid. Commitment: Approximately of 10 hours a week


Creative Internships

Kalimat Creative Internships offer real-world work experience and knowledge for those who wish to plunge headfirst into the making of a magazine and media organization. This internship is a special program designed to enable interns to learn about the publishing world. We seek to provide an educational experience for those accepted, and expect our interns to be creative, proactive, and professional.

Editorial:

Emphasis is placed on copy editing, fact checking, general research, story generation, and writing. Please include links to or attachments of published writing samples in your application email. English and journalism students strongly preferred.

Design:

We are a creative organisation and are looking for capable design interns to learn about and try their hand at in-house production (print and online advertising, flyers, custom publications, promotional materials, items for the shop, CDs, DVDs, etc). Be proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. You'll get firsthand knowledge and experience at an exciting publication. Emphasis is also placed on blogging, coding, and outreach. Applicants must have a basic understanding of HTML and Content Management Software like Wordpress. Please include links to or an attachment of your portfolio in your application email. Design students preferred.
